O.K. I have been researching auto tranny upgrades online and here on the forum, and so far all I have found is the sonnax valve and tricumulator springs from Black cloud. Is this all I need for the tranny? I do some towing but not much and currently have 496 RWHP I plan on around 600 RWHP within the year and I often run at our local track. Currently if I do a burnt out or just stomp it from a stop when it hits second gear the rear of the truck bounces and I worry about screwing up the tranny. Are there any other auto tranny upgrades to do?
Thanks, Brad.
I would still love to know how you got the 496rwhp like in your other post. I don't mean computer guessing #'s. What mods have you done? If you actually have that kind of hp, then you will need a whole other trans like a bts, suncoast, and ats are just a few. I have already blew one trans and I know I am not pushing 496rwhp.
Fordafied's right. If you're actually running that kind of hp you need a much stronger tranny, not just upgrades to the original. I'll throw Monsterbox in the list that Fordafied gave you. I'm interested in what mods you have as well.
I have the banks intercooler, an intercooler fan, the 5.6K mod with pontimeter, superchips flip chip, 5 inch exhaust, bb turbo, wicked wheel, kwikk filter, and a 150 shot of NOS setup up as a direct spray, also intercooler mist. And yes those HP numbers were estimates from a laptop with some kinda program for that kinda stuff. My friend owns the laptop and has a very, very heavily modified 2nd gen eclipse that his computer estimated to have 389 FWHP and then when he went to the closest dyno (165 miles away, thats why I havent gone yet) his laptop was within 12 HP of reading the same. I run at our local track and run a 14.89 on the 1/4 mile and using the E.T. and the trucks stock wieght his laptop figured 496 RWHP. Someone correct me if the estimate seems off, I do really want to know I just dont have the time or money to go to a real dyno. thats why he bought the laptop program.
Thanks for any help here, Brad.
well i can't say much about your HP numbers. with what you listed i would say that could be pretty close but i have also seen a number or trannies wasted on stock HP i would recommend a built tranny and not just the sonnax kit and the transcommand seems like a waste to spend 200 on a box that only shifts differently when your loaded. the BTS or the mosterbox and other built trannies recommend would be the way to go.
Thanks for the help Tim!! I guess I need to get a whole new tranny huh? well that might just have to wait a little bit, so where can I find one of these tranny's and how much do they cost?
Brad
www.brianstruckshop.com is regarded as one of the best tranny shops in the buisiness. from what i understand, thier warrenty is practically a dare for you to break them they stand by them so much....expect to drop up to 5K for it installed.
RedStroker thanks for the site, that is a lot of money!! but I guess I pretty much need it. Or do I? do I really a whole new tranny? or can I just beef up mine for less than 5 grand and still have it be "bullet proof" or is it not worth it?
Brad
personally, if i was runnin what you've got, i'd toss in a sonnax/tricumulator (sp??) rig, tranny cooler, and run it till that tranny bit the dust....in the MEANTIME, save my penniea n nickels for a BTS tranny. i understand the Monsterbox that Ma suggested is a good one as well. i haven't looked into them all that much, but if i had 5K to throw on a tranny, BTS would get it. the majority of the folks on this board would probably do the same. my .2
thanks for the help guys!! I guess I will start saving quick, do I need to get an upgraded converter? will that be able to be used in both the stock tranny and BTS or any other aftermarket tranny?
Brad
i think BTS puts a new billet converter in thier tranny's, but i couldbe wrong. it should say on thier site. i'd look, but i haven't had m coffee yet this morning
They all come complete. All of them will have upgrades $$ depending on how wild you want to get with the truck. I looked into the Monsterbox and it can be had for $4200. That is not anything but the Trans. You will have to ship it to you and then send your core back and also have to have it installed. If those HP #'s are close, then expect to loose a Trans soon if you keep hammering on it. I know from experience. Good luck. I am saving for a Monsterbox now.

You can get the Monsterbox from Dieselsite for less than $3500. That includes shipping, core return shipping, torque converter and everything. Good price for damn good tranny from a very good vendor.
