how do you pull codes? i always see people saying pull codes this, and pull codes that. i wanna know how to do this too if anyone is willing to show me. do i need some sorta' tool/book?
If you don't want to count just get an OBD I code reader. A decent one with a digital display can ususally be picked up at walmart for $30 or for other carriers go to www.codereader.com and do a search. You might want to pick up a cable extension for the code reader too so you can read it in your cab. Best of luck.
I'd rather spend $30 bucks on something that my truck needs, but that is just me. Here is another link with instructions on pulling codes, with several diagrams: http://www.thorssell.net/hbook/eectest.html
okay, i'm probably just a moron, but why can't i find the test connector on my 87 f150? can someone tell me where it is? I looked all along the fender walls, and I just don't see it.

To each his own I guess. I just suggested the code reader as an option for those new to the fix-it game. It is unneccesary as andym says.
ghjess, if your truck is like my '89, the test connector can be found near the air filter on the drivers side. It has a cap making it a bit inconspicuous. It most likely won't be hangin loose, so look for it mounted to other components with a plastic retainer. Maybe someone else can give you more specific instructions regarding where to find it on an '87. best of luck.
