Squeaky bed

This probably sounds a little silly, but I have a squeek coming from somewhere on my bed.
So far I can only really hear it with the windows down, or the rear window open, but it's been getting worse.
It's impossible to tell where it is coming from specifically so I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems, and could point me in the right direction?

It's an 02 F150 extended cab if it matters, winly only 22k miles.

Thanks

Erik

Does it do it when you hit bumps, etc? If it does then it could just be the shocks and/or the rubber bushings that are on the bolts for the springs. I know mine sqeaks something fierce, but at 150,000 miles it's kind of expected. About the only time I hear it is when I get out, or have my windows/stereo down, which doesn't happen that often!!!!!!

It's definitely more pronounced when hitting bumps. That's why I figure it's somthing to do with the bed mounts. Honestly, after only 22k miles there shouldn't be a thing that squeeks, much less the rusted pasenger door

Yea, I really don't know what to say. I've just kind of gotten used to it, it's just one of those things. I suppose you could try new shocks in rear, although with 22k they shouldn't really be bad yet should they? You could also try some polyurathane (sp?) body mounts and bushings where the spring bolts to the spring hanger. If the bushings are cracked, then they definitly need to be replaced. If you don't want to spend any money you could try some white lithum grease on the bushings and see what that does.

Good Luck

My tailgate was the cause of my squeek. Had to adjust the latch ring on the bed.

2 months ago I thought I had a squeaky bed but it turned out to be my tail gate. I hit it with a couple of shots of penerating fluid and... whala no more squeaking!

Thanks, grease on the tailgate latch worked but how do you adjust the latch ring?

Pull the panel off on the inside of the tail gate (torx bolts) and there are 2 long rods coming in from either side and into plastic clips. Use a marker to mark them, so you'll know where they were, and unclip the plastic clips. Lift the rod out and set it back in a 1/8 inch ( or whatever you need) father out. Be sure and test it by closing the tail gate before you bolt the panel back.
