I'm new to the site but it's pretty cool!
I have a 1977 F-250 supercab ranger camper special. I have had it for 15 years and love it. I drive it every day providing there is no salt on the road.
Can anyone tell me what is an XLT is? The only thing I think my truck is missing is the wood dash pieces...I have recently found all of those pieces in a bone yard and have restored them and will soon my on my truck. Is that the only diference? Or is it something else.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who knows.
Thanks, Splooie
I am pretty sure that the XLT was just an upgraded interior and exterior badges package. I have seen many different things on for trucks. I have had two 74 XLT one blue and the other green, The blue one had FORD door handles and had a cloth interior, the door panels and even the headliner were made out of some sort of cloth. now my green XLT has a vynil XLT interior. I dont like the cloth interuor because it seems to attract and hold more dirt and is a bear to clean. Yep, I rather have the delux vinyl interior.
the xlt's had trim around the wheels, down the middle of the truck, tailgate, chrome tie down hooks on the bed and trim along the bottom of the truck, along with an XLT marking.
thats all that i can remember for the outside packages, at least whats on my 76.
From the Ford factory brochure for 1976 trucks:
"Ranger XLT interiors offer (in addition to or in place of Ranger items) deluxe color-keyed, long wearing cloth and vinyl seat upholstery (Supersoft vinyl is a no-cost option); color-keyed pleated padded upper door panels with simulated woodgrain accented moldings; color-keyed wall-to-wall cut-pile nylon carpeting (including rear storage area); bright instrument panel molding with simulated woodgrain insert; bright seat-pivot covers; additional insulation; convenience group (intermittent windshield wipers, door map poockets, glove compartment lock, and inside 12-in. day/night mirror); color-keyed vinyl headlining (with special insulation) and sun visors. Exteriors feature bright wheel covers (15" or 16.5" wheels except F-250 4x4's). Styleside pickup includes upper tailgate applique panel and molding; aluminum tailgate applique panel."
