Okay, now, once i get all this strait, i should be almost ready to orders some more parts, so here it goes. Okay, built up my 85 F150 engine, camshaft, 24 lb/hr fuel injectors, ignition parts, etc. I know the truck has the speed density system, and i'm going to convert it to mass air flow. After i do this, i'm planning on putting in a diablo chip, since it was so good on my ranger. My question is this- is there any PCM that you can not chip? Like if i get a computer from a MAF mustang will you be able to chip it? will the computer code determine whether or not its chip-able? I'm more than likely going to have custom programing done to it due to the camshaft and the injectors. Can you compensate with the chip for the injectors? or do i need to get an aftermarket MAF so you can program for that?
You can chip any of the Ford computers that are EEC-IV or EEC-V.
The problem is some of the chip makers don't support specific EEC's because there's no market for it to speak of. But technically, they can all be modified more or less the same way.
This is one of the reasons why using the mass-air mustang EEC is such a popular modification to mustangs, and almost any other V8 Ford - it's so darn popular you can buy chips for almost any combination of hardware, or use something like Tweecer, or Paul Booth EECEditor and some moates.net hardware to make your own changes as you see fit.
Note that some of the very early EEV-IV computers do have problems with certain chips (SCT, Diablo Sport) due to clearance problems. Shouldn't be a problem in your case since you're changing the system over and I assume you're taking the computer and harness as well?
