The Usual PC Help

I'm going to purchasing PcCillin 2005 but don't know much about computers.

My question is simple. Before I get this, will this anti-virus software work with Firefox web browser and gmail & Comcast email clients?

It doesn't specifiy it in the specifications page.

Here's the link

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/product...quirements.htm

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know this is beating a dead horse again. Sorry

You may notice a slowdown in some programs, but they should all work with that anti-virus. Just make sure that no other anti-virus software is on your PC, as the two will lock the machine up because they'll be fighting against each other. I can thank my boss for that bit of useful information.

Will probably work with Firefox, since it is based on the Netscape platform.

As far as your email clients, do you do your email online (through a browser) or is there an actual email client you use, like Outlook, etc? If you are online doing email, more than likely Comcast and GMail have their own anti-virus running on their servers. May or may not cover anything you download from your email (since I don't know what you're using to get email).

Good luck to ya

The ONLY conflicts that I have had with PC-Cillin is with ZoneAlarm, 'cause it has it's own firewall, built in.

For me. . . PC-Cillin is GREAT!!!!

Isn't PC Cillin a payment system like norton? I don't feel safe paying for anti-virus.. I feel like i'm paying the writers of them.. I mean they have to stay in business right? I use AVG (www.grisoft.com) It has plugins for most web browsers... Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, and Thunderbird i know for sure...

I've had 2 versions of Norton - both are NO LONGER supported.

I'll never spend another dime on a Norton product.

Ditto! The greedy SOB's even canceled their support of their Virus software 4 months after I bought it...specifically because the box said "lifetime updates".

My computer (HP P4 2 gig WinXP SP2) came with Norton 2003 and found it slowed it down being a CPU hog. There was no way I could keep the subscription up anyway and deleted it. Then installed AVG Free as I had this in my previous computer with Win98se. Worked fine.

Yes, I read where there could be a conflict if you have more than one anti virus program installed and running.

Avg free works very good for me. They also have a pro version you can get five licenses about as cheap as one from norton. Good for someone like me because my home network has four computers and a couple more when my stepdaughter and son in law visit. The pro version is not neccesary at all for the average user. Free is sufficient unless your like me and love to tweak settings on everything. When I get the spare $$ I plan to upgrade to pro.

VikingBabe, Norton2003 had serious issues when running under the XP platform. NAV03 is listed by microsoft as having compatibilty problems with XP.

Ditto. No need to look for something else.

Got fed up with Nortons not supporting their older versions every couple of years.

I prefer Tiny Personal firewall backed up with Norton Corporate Antivirus. I use the free online scanners from panda, microtrend and mcafee as a secondary backups.Because Any firewall and antivirus can be compromised. When they make a better firewalls and antivirus they make better hackers and virus spredders. Tiny Personal Firewall has an activity monitor that you can watch all event logs.Tells you what is going in and out, the port and weather the process is using tcp or udp and i.p. its comming from and going out on,connections and running programs. You allow or dissallow every file and can limit its spawning. IT can get a bit tedious when doing an update from Microsoft but worth it in my opinion.

I tried several firewalls and all worked for a while, but all tended to slow things down and when they glitched...caused major problems trying to re-install. Bought a router and took out the firewall. Now I use adaware and spybot to clean things up and Housecall if I want to check for viruses. Nothing turns up, so it must be doing it's job and there's no speed related problems.
