My rear window went down today and now refuses to go back up. I have the "tailgate closed" sensor bypassed so it is not that. My question is if the dashboard switch breaks can it stop the tailgate-key-switch from working?
My dashboard switch has been on the fringe for a few months now. I have just been using the keyswitch to roll the windows up and down. But now that isn't working either.

The switch might have shorted out on you, causing the key not to work either. I had that problem a while ago, just bought a switch from broncograveyard.com
I had that same trouble with the rear window. I found the rear tailgate was not latching tight, thus not making a good connection for window switch. Try pushing in on the tailgate (carefull not to dent middle as I did!) as you try the key switch. If that works as you push in on tailgate then your latch bars are loose inside the tailgate. Easy fix! Take tailgate liner inside off to expose bars and doorlatch. Slightly bend bars back to proper arch so tension is increased on latch. Then tailgate should close properly and thus switch makes contact again! Kind of a cheap setup, but it is easy to fix. Same exact trouble and fix on drivers door latch I found. Hope this helps.
i also have the same problem ,my 88's rear window will go down ,but it only go's back up about 8" ,you can here something back there as if it is trying to go up ,
but no luck going all the way up
sorry to jump your thread ..but i thought i fit right in there
i will take the tailgate panel off today to see what the deal is
BigBronco88, if you can hear the motor running, chances are the plastic motor gears are stripped. Very common problem. The fix is to get a gear kit and replace the gears. I bought mine from the dealer, but since then many parts stores have started carrying them......
you might check your wiring under the driverside tail light ... i ran into the same problem and the wiring ended up being old and brittle (snapped in half when i touched it) ... i cut the bad spots out and ran some more wire and it works great now
Also check the fuse. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but after reading about motors going out and bad wiring all the time I didn't even bother checking the fuse until I was outside of the shop I was taking it to.
Sounds like something I would do. It is easy to overlook the obvious. My son could not get his inside dome and panel lights on, was checking fuses, ect. Was going to take it in to shop and I walked up to the light switch and clicked them on! He did not know you could switch them off so they would not come on when you opened your doors. I read a post that someone could not get his inside lights to come on, I wonder???
