In need of a power steering bracket. Before I hit the boneyard does anyone know if the 1970's (or later) 351W PS brackets & pulleys will attach to an earlier 1968 351W?? I think around 1974 the heads, at least, were changed - amount of bolts and the size and also did away with the points but I do not know if the mounting holes at the front of the engine were changed for the accessory brackets. Unfortunately several years ago I trashed the AC & PS setup. Appreciate your help.
Grumpy, this is unfortunately on of the biggest diffculties in finishing a 351W install. I did the same exact thing. I pulled my 351W out of a vehicle and also scrapped the AC setup. The PS and AC go together on the driver's side of the engine and are tough to find. Most of the vehicles in the boneyards I searched (which was about 11) had this part already removed.
I would start searching on ebay and other part sites (http://www.car-part.com is a good one and, I believe, a sponsor of this site) I found mine on ebay, but there are also outfits like James Duff and March performance that make aftermarket kits for these applications. They are very pricey and will probably run you about $600 for the set. You should also get tensioners (turnbuckle style) and the alternator bracket with these kits. I'll keep looking like I had to until I found mine and post if I come up with another one. Happy hunting!!!!
Thanks for your reply. Does anyone have a good photo of the bracket - installed or otherwise. Perhaps I could have someone fab one up. My intentions are to do the Toyota PS conversion on my '54 F100 but certainly do not want to spend several hundred just for "fancy" brackets. Anyone re-work a different bracket to use on a early ('69) 351W?? If I can't find a bracket I may be forced to use a rack & pinion PS unit.
There are two used and one new one by moroso on ebay right now. One of the used ones actually comes with the pump and pressure lines attached. Happy Hunting!
