2000 F150 7700 4x4.
I have a very loud obnoxious squeak in the right front steering. My truck has 33000 miles, and is well taken care of. Are ball joints a high mortality part for the F150 4x4?
Do I have to replace both the top and bottom ball joint at the same time? I hope the replacement ball joints have grease zerks. What is this going to cost me if I have it done?
Thanks.
you can tell if your ball joints are bad if you jack up one of the front tires and with the wheel and all on the truck. grab the top and bottom of the wheel and move it in and out like you are shaking it. you can also ask f=2504by497, the plastic things on the top of your ball joints are ware indicaters he told me.
I had the same problem with my '97 and was told by an alighnment shop that the balljoints were shot. My tires were wearing perfect so I took it to a mechanic i could trust and it turned out to be a dry joint. All the joints on the '97+ trucks are non greaseable and they get dry. Ford recomends replacing the squeaking joints, but all the joints on my truck were still tight like new, so the mechanic took a syringe with a fine needle and injected grease into all of them and that stopped the squeak. I put another 30000 miles on it before trading it off and the squeak never came back.
All F150's appear to have the squeaks when the grease gets washed out. No sense in replacing ball joints, if they are still good, but just need a way to grease them.
