Check your connetions in the front anf rear to insure you did not disturb the wires. If it all looks good try disconnecting the battery for 10 min and re connect and try again. the cpu may just have a clitch in it and alot of times disconnecting the battery will fix things.
My ABS light came on and stayed on a few weeks after I had a brake job.
They also changed the brake fluid from dot 3 to dot 4.
Dealer said it was the Vehicle Speed Sensor in the transmisson and that the ABS system was still working.
I mentioned that the manual states that if the ABS light is on that the ABS system is disabled but he assured me that it was still working. hmmmmmmmmmmm.
I'll have to see if it is or not for sure.
Also does anyone know where this might be located in the transmisson?
If the system involved is a rear-only system, the codes can be pulled with no special tools.
If it's a 4 wheel system, you will need an ABS-capable OBD-II scanner to pull the code. These are not cheap and you won't find many outside of dealerships.
It's relatively easy to to damage front wheel sensors and their cables while doing front brakes.
I also encounter the same problem. Though I haven't yet brought my car to the dealer, I called their mechanic and he told me that it may have been caused by a faulty ABS sensor. He said that it is located at the back of the rear differential. I have a 4.2 SuperCab.
Sorry guys...lots of bad info given in this thread.
Go to an Autozone, they'll rent you the OBD-II scanner for free.
As for the rear sensor, no dealer necessary. It installs with one bolt/one plug in less than five minutes. It's directly on top of the differential, towards the front.
I paid $12 for the part at a Kragen Auto Supply, it was OEM. Dealers want twice that.

The scanners that AZ uses are not capable of pulling ABS codes. See my previous post.
The rear diff sensor is one of the most common failures on Ford's RABS system. However, unless you either pull the code to see what the computer thinks is wrong, you have to be willing to risk the price of the part that your guess is incorrect. Since both posters had ABS system faults shortly after working on their own front brakes, it is prudent to 1) find out if they have 4W ABS and 2) if so, inspect the area most recently worked on.
The rear ABS sensor can be checked for gross failure with an ohmmeter. A good sensor will read 1000-1500 ohms. The ones I have checked were open.
I should have mentioned that the brake job was completed by Carx not my Ford Dealer so they were prob telling the truth about it being the Vehicle spped sensor and about it being located in the transmission.
Neither Auto Zone or Jefferson Auto parts could tell me exactly where this is located but that it only costs about $23.00 .

I assure you the second part of my first post is accurate...

Hey Guys (gals), My ABS light goes on after about 20 minutes at speeds above 70mph. I just replaced the Trans (BIG BUCKS) it was toast. The speedo around 70+ is also bouncing around like an idiot. This leads me to belive that the CPU was recieving bunk info for quite some time. Hence the toast trans. The Od light came on Flashing this weekend and My million dollar trans went into safe mode.. shifts like a corvett (also intended to protect itself on E04D auto) Thus I have purchased one brand new ABS speed sensor for the rear Diff. We will see if any good news comes from this once I clear the memory and drive for a while. This will also solidify some of the previous threads. Will keep Y'all posted
