I have a coolant leak, It seems to be collecting on the cross member behind the fan. I know I have a leak in the radiator but this seem like a lot. Could the water pump be leaking from the bottom of the seal? A engine leak would be very visible, Any idea?
the water pump has a weep whole that will leak when the pump goes out or is bad. also check some of the small hoses around that general area . tighten all hose clamps.
Thanks, where is the weep hole located, I going to drive it up on ramp tonight, I sprayed it the area with degreasor last night, This is more of a PIA than any thing, BARS leak stop doesn't work
bars leak just makes a mess especially inside the rad and stuff. I cant recall were it is actually located because it hasnt happend to me in awhile. you might try a search on the actual web for waterpump weep whole. you might find something or a pic
I did a bit of research, I'm think you were right, water pump is dying. Should I replace it with a Ford OEM or does any one else make a better aftermarket.
I would just go with a stock replacement. the hi volume pumps are more necessary for hi hp motors that tend to run hot anyway. some thing from napa etc.. should be fine get the lifetime warranty one though.
Update on my coolant leak, When I had it up on ramps last night, When I reved the engine, fluid would leak down from around the crank shaft. I can't figure out where its coming from, but won't fluid from the crank be oil? I'm thinking it coming down from the water pump some where. At least I hope so
It sounds like it is leaking from the waterpump. If you look at where the fan is attached to the waterpump, right behind the pully is a little hole, in the bottom of the pump you will find the weep hole. If you see a stream of water or it is dripping, it is a bad pump.
