I am in Washington State and got a full size gate for my F250 out of Alabama for 35 bucks UPS from a junkyard down there. I was leary about it, but the gal down there checked with her UPS guy (who had done this before for her) and he said 9 times out of 10 once it is on the truck they just keep moving it along. Worst thing that would happen was they would send it back to her and say no chance we are shipping it.
I had a 'new' one created from factory tooling shipped to me for $30. Coming from the east coast.. all the way to the west coast. It came in a cardboard box with just styrofoam protection. Nothing special. Arrived in perfect condition.
However, I was quoted from a junk yard on the east coast that they would ship me a used one via common carrier for $200. That was the first quote I got.. and that's when I started making phone calls.
Another option is to have it taken to a Greyhound depot and get itself a ticket. You'll have to have someone drop it off and you'll have to pick it up. Sort of a pain in the hiney.
