Can't find an ignition switch

I guess these are getting harder to find.

Carpenters nor Classic Auto Parts, Inc. seem to have one for a 1950 Ford F1.

Does anyone know where to go to find one of these? Would like to find a NOS if possible.

Sorry no help here, the only thing I could find were ignition locks (?) and starter buttons.

Be carefull if you 'find' one too. I ordered one for my '52 and it turned out to be a '53+. The great thing is that the '53+ bezel is as easy to find as the earlier ignition switch.

I just don't get why they made the ignition switch the way they did. It really could have been so easy to use a threaded barrel and a nut with slots cut into the corners. Then the bezel could have simply clicked onto the nut.

Anywho... I have reworked the one I have... but it ought to be replaced.

I'll keep lookin.

What you need is a 6A 11572-B ign switch. The cyl and key is separate from the switch. The switch also fits the 46-48 car also. They come up on Ebay, but get run up pretty high. The cyl and key is 1A 11582-A.I found both on the locator

6A 11572-B

Dennis Carpenter 1-800-476-9653
Lincoln old parts 1-88-500-9717

1A 11582-A

Collectors auto supply 1-800-414-4462

Call them up and ask for availability and prices.

Barry,

I checked Dennis Carpenter. I will check them again. I need the cylinder that the key goes into. It looked to me like the switch was built into the cylinder.

The cylinder/key just is very loose, and wants to fall out of the dash. Not sure if it is just the spring/clip or a VERY bad design. I have it up in there snug now.... but it just seems really flimsy.

Thanks for the numbers. I will do some checking.

THe spring clips do get worn out after time. I got a new one off Ebay. The cyl and key is separate from the electrical switch. You need a key to remove the old one. I've changed them before. If you don't have a key, just get the 2 separate pieces. You can then take the door lock to a locksmith and have them key the door to the new ign cyl. easier than messing with different keys. Try the other place I listed. Carpenter may have sold the switch.

Barry,

Good thought.

Actually I need to rekey my door cylinder as the ignition key does not fit it. I'll check out the numbers you posted. Thanks again.

Hello Blue Dolphin, I have a 49' pick-up just like yours. Bob has advertised on the Fordbarn plus other sites. I have bought ignition locks with keys and was very satisfied. Bob is an honest guy and i would recommend him highly.

Thanks
