Finally!! Just installed the new exhaust that has been sitting around for about a month. I injured my knee, so couldn't do the install work. I finally broke down and paid someone to do it.
So, my '00 F250 is now wearing a Diamond Eye aluminized exhaust system from Tymar. It has a 4" DP, then 5" pipe with 5" straight through muffler that exits in the stock location.
At idle, it is hardly any different sounding than stock. But as soon as I give it a little throttle, the turbo whistle winds up immediately. It sounds more like a big rig.
It really isn't much louder on the interior. Under load it is deeper and somewhat louder, but cruising with no load down the freeway at 65, the only thing noticeably different is more turbo whistle. I haven't driven under load up a hill at freeway speeds. I'll try that in a couple of days.
Outside it is louder - more turbo whistle and some turbo flutter - though nowhere near as much as a friend that has the stock pipe with a straight pipe replacing the muffler.
I tried recording the truck before the exhaust change, but my recorder was picking up too much mech noise, not much else.
Later in the week, I'll try another recorder to see if I can capture the sound of the 5" system.
Mods are fun! And, too much is never enough - that is why the 5" instead of a more sensible 4".
No dyno. Trying to do all the work myself, but had to give up on a couple of things for the time being. Maybe one day I'll have it dyno'd, but since I don't have anything made by Banks, I doubt they would take too kindly to my wanting to dyno my mule there!!
Here is a pic. It is funny, the pipe looks much smaller in the pic than in person...

Okay, one more for now. I'll get one underneath the truck in the morning - when it is something under 100 degrees out - and take one of the installation.
Very good looking. I'm sure it really does look a lot bigger in person.. We all know how that 6637 filter turned out;....We look at all these pictures online, think it's normal size, and then we get it.... WTH, how can this thing possibly fit..?!
I got it from Tymar - $440 shipped to my door. It is aluminized, not stainless. If I lived in cold country, I'd definitely spring for the stainless. But we don't have big rust problems here. I've had cars 25 years old with the original exhaust.
Okay, one last set of pix. I've had several PMs about this system, so here are a few answers -
It seems to be pretty well made, no sloppy welds, well put together, and the system bolted together with no major issues. The only issue I noted with regard to construction of the system is that the portion of the DP that expanded to 4" could have been a bit smoother. It isn't bad, but a smoother transition would have been better for flow.
The shop that installed it didn't like how close the pipe was to the spare, so they welded a little spacer onto the pipe to make sure the pipe itself didn't contact the tire. Other than that and the usual "we had to jiggle it around a bit so it fit right', the system seemed to go together well. I wish I could have done it, as I would then be able to tell you more about the installation.
The system is 4" downpipe, and 4" inches until past the transmission. Apparently, there isn't room for a 5 inch pipe between the tranny and the frame! Anyway, just past the transfer case, it expands to a 5", then into the 5" muffler. The curved tailpipe begins on the backside of the muffler, over the axle, and exits in front of the rear wheel.
Mine is a standard cab, so it has about the shortest wheelbase you can get on one of these Superdutys. Consequently, approximately 1/2 the pipe under the truck is 4", the rest is 5". However, there was an additional four feet (or more) of 5" pipe to accommodate the longer wheelbase models, even enough for the crew cab. So the extra length in the exhaust system with the longer wheelbases is all 5" pipe. That pipe is sitting in my garage now, just in case I need a patch for a sewer line...
Above shows the pipe expanding to 5" - transfer case is on right.
Above pic shows back of muffler, tailpipe curving over axle. For scale, note that the U-joint looks pretty small by comparison.
