rough running '01

My wife called from the road and said her engine was running rough at low rpm and low speed, once she gets up to hwy speed it is working fine. I'm thinking maybe some bad fuel? She stopped at a truck stop and a trucker told her it sonded like water in the fuel and to get a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol and dump it in the tank. Never heard of that one before. Anybody got anyother ideas?

Isopropyl? Weird .. it kinda has a fair amount of water in it too.

If ya wanna cure a h20 in the fuel problem - i dont understand why you'd use an alcohol that has water in it too.

Denatured alcohol seems it would be better - by the gallon at Home Depot.

But ... no idea why alcohol in the fuel in the first place - ol wives tale perhaps?

More Informed replies to this will be interesting.

Maybe he said denatured and my wife heard isoprpyl? I'm just curious if water in the fuel has those symptoms.

I always herd that Alcohol of any kind was a big NO NO in diesel fuel. I personally would use a high quality Diesel Fuel Aditive to help remove the water. If you look on some of the big brand name DFAs you will find "Contains No Alcohol".
