I am pulling a 400 to rebuild out of a junk truck. It has an automatic and I can't get the motor to turn to remove the flex plate bolts. Can I pull it anyway and just pull the torque converter out? I have no use for the tranny in the junk truck.
Thanks so much for your help!!!!
ps to moderator...sorry about double post ...in HUGE time crunch!
Torque converter should be bolted to the flexplate, the input shat to the transmission should slip right out but you'll need to be able to slip the motor forward(I think about 6 inches but its been a long time)to clear the input shaft. The engine should come clear as long as you get all the bell housing bolts out. I definitely recommend taking the 5 minutes to pull the radiator out to give more wiggle room as you may need to do lots of wiggling to get completely free of the input shaft before raising the motor.
Thanks guys, had radiator loose already so it should be cool...my motor dude had to run so we will do it tomorrow...he has a tractor with a bucket that we use to pull motors...damn deer season anyway !!
