true duals

i am going to install true dual straight pipes on my 1997 f-150 4.6. should i have a h-pipe or a x-pipe put on, or is it really necessary? what would this setup sound like? thanks for any info.

The X pipe or H pipe will just blend the sound on both sides better, usually. I've been told that it can create a little more power as well for some applications. I put in an H pipe on my '53, I would do it on anything that I want to run duals in, personnaly.

Properly setup, a Y pipe can only help and not hurt. Worst case, you make no hp/tq, but lose nothing either.

i would start with headers into a y-pipe that went into a dual in dual out high flow cat and out the back. then you wont have to worry about any h-pipe or x-pipe. you could also take a pipe and hook both sides together it wouldnt hurt but dont really see why that would be neccisary.

i am going to be doing that soon or i already have a 3" cat back that i can do a dual in single 3 out.
