I believe I have discovered the reason for my 53's pesky oil leak. The front lip of the oil pan has been massaged at some time in the past, now I am in need of a replacement. It is Ford part number DU3E 6675 AA. I believe it to be a 1974 E series pan for a Windsor block. Can anyone help with pinning this number down? Thanks, Joe.
Guess that would help, wouldn't it. 302, Volare crossmember. Set everything up with this pan. Some of the pics I see of some later rear sump pans look close, hard to tell from a picture.
You maybe able to use a late model Mustang pan (79 to 95). I have a Volare susp with a 351W eng in my 56. I used a Ford Motorsport pan that is used when you install a 351W in a late model Mustang.
Just some info. the oil pans are not interchangable between a 302 and a 351W. The 351W is wider.
Joe, depending on how "massaged" the pan is, could you or a body man fix it inexpensively? A body man wouldn't have to worry about small dents and a perfect finish like he would with body sheet metal. All you need is a good, flat surface.
If you require the rear sump oilpan, look in 4x4's and 75-91 vans. They used the rear sump pans. Aftermarket vendors also can supply you with a rear sump pan. Check out Milodon and Hamburger.
Thanks Earl, looks like someone maybe pried on the front lip at some time and bent it. Then maybe they took a ball peen and tried to "fix" it. The lip that sets in the rubber seal has a very sharp edge now. I had just never looked close enought at it when I installed it.
truckfarmer I will look at those. I used this pan to set up motor mounts so if I can find another identical one, no problem. Otherwise, I need the same depth over the crossmember. Thanks for your help guiys, Joe.
Have you thought about checking with your local auotparts store. While I'm sure they don't stock it, I would imagine they could get one. If nothinhg else it may be one of those MOROSO pans but if you don't care for that, I suspect they can get you a stock one. Also, you might look for a local engine rebuild shop and ask them for assistance.
Well, I took merc546s' advise and got an 89 Mustang pan that will work out fine. Hey merc, how do you deal with the front drain plug? Looked to me like it would be a pain to get to, so I installed a drain back tube to the rear sump. Now only have to open rear drain. Looks like it will be a better set up than original pan. Thanks for all the help, Joe.
