You can get them at some township buildings. In fact, I know Delaware just got new ones. Those pics are normally 1-4 years old, and the newer ones aren't accessible to us yet. Mapquest used to offer it, and I played around with it. You could get very close. But you know how it's a scale of 1-12 or something like that? I searched Groom Lake, and the closest I could get was a map of Cali over to OK, and it didn't provide the aerial at all. I think you could get really close to D.C., but a lot of the landmark's roofs were blocked out on those aerials.
I've had Google Earth for about two weeks now...love it! It seems that some of the satt. photos they use are taken with the lens zoomed closer in than others, like 400 feet versus 3500 feet. Usually in the major cities, but not always. I can zoom in on Fisherman's Wharf in SF and dang near read the license plates on the cars, but my house is just a blur. I go up a ways tp my sister's house, and it's also a blur but a short distance away it suddenly comes into focus and I can see my neice's house, right on the edge of a blurry/clear dividing line. -TD
I guess I have a big version of Google Earth. Mine was 24MB.. Also I downloaded one put out by NASA (it was over 300MB) and it's astounding. I can view things in 3D like the Grand Canyons and stuff. You should look around for it.
