of my 91 F150. At first I thought I had water leaking in somewhere because it the carpet was getting wet and it is starting to smell musty inside. Today after work I opened it up and it was really musty smelling. The carpet was a little damp and I lifted up the floormat and the rubber foot rest had water on it. My stereo amp which is on the floor behind the seat was sweating like crazy. What would be causing this? Could I have a leak somewhere? The only place I can think of is the rear window(solid, not sliding). Seems to maybe be worse on the drivers side. I checked the weatherstripping around the doors and its good.
If your seals all look good I can only think of two things both long shots. Heater core but that would be passanger side under the dash. Seat and seat belt bounting bolts. They go all the way through the floor pan and if one was missing you might get water through the hole while you drove in the rain. Mabey.....real long shot, seal around your bed light? Thats all I've got, good luck.
sounds like bad heater core. does not matter that it is on passanger side, water travels easily. could be leaking windshield, rust holes, bad seals on windows but i think heater core. are you loosing coolant? does watwer smell sweet? was it raining lately.
It does seem to happen when it rains. I am going to have to look further for hole or leaks. It's not sweet smelling and I'm not loosing coolant so I don't think it's the heater core but I will check it out.
It's raining out now. Drove to work and it looks like it might be coming in around the seatbelt bolt in the floor. It's wet there and can't find anyplace that water is coming in.
maybe not. I peeled back the carpet behind the seat & it's wet along the bottom ridge where the floor meets the back. It's real wet all in that corner behind the seat. I may have to take the seat & all the carpet out to find this leak.
On my '91, the screw holes in the floor pan for the sill plate were rusted out
into 3/4" holes.
I think the rain might have been getting thrown up into the channel from the road. It hasn't rained enough here in IL since I patched the holes to tell if that was where the water in the channel was actually coming from.
I had a similar problem only once or twice on my 94. Look at the seam at the top of the back window. The seam sealer on mine is cracked and I guess allowed some water to enter when I parked it a certain way. Also, make sure all of the seam sealer is in place in the drip rail where the roof meets the cab edge.
