'98 Ranger drive shaft

Yesterday I was in a bit of a hurry and was going through my manual 5 speed shifting and clutching accordingly... without any problems. This morning I jumped in performed normal driving practices and began to hear some problematic noises somewhere in the drive train. Looked underneath and discovered a flex rubber mounted ring that normally cradled the front universal joint on the drive shaft, transmission side, was broken free and flinging around at will.

Question: How may this be repaired, or do I have to change the drive shaft?

I changed the universals in my driveshaft then sent it out to get balanced and the machine shop that Napa sent it to regreased the splines under the flexable piece of rubber. You'll find that many users of fte say to have the grease on the splines cleaned out and to regrease and install a new rubber boot. A mechanic at Ford told me if your going to service this your self that you need a low viscosity lithium based grease and that it isn't cheap. If I were you I would get the driveshaft out of the vehicle and have it serviced before too much dirt gets it the splines.
