I was just wondering how acurate the fuel mileage display is on my 2005 F-250 psd. I hear a stock psd should get around 17mpg. I drive with no trailer and try to drive conservatively. The best I get is 13 according to the guage. I only have around 1800 miles on the truck.
The only way to really know is record your mileage and fuel and do it the old way with a pencil and just check it a couple of times to see what the comparison is..
Every fill-up I hand calculate my mileage and compare it to the computer calculated mileage. The computer is always .5 to 1 MPG better than the hand calculation on my truck.
I have a '05 PSD 4X4 and average around 16.5 MPG (hand calculated) since new just driving the truck. I get in the 13 to 15 MPG range when pulling my trailer.
This is my first diesel and the engine sounds strange to me. I don't know what it's supposed to sound like, but I keep expecting it to shift again when I'm on the freeway. At 80 I'm turning around 2700 rmps. Does this sound right?
I have a 05 F-350 4x4 reg cab 6Spd. PSD 3.73 gears at 70Mph it's about 2,000 in 6th gear.
I have 1500 miles and my last tank I calculated 19mpg but I am light on the pedal still getting to know my truck. I know some bad things are said about the 6.0 and I hope I never have any of them but man it walks all over the 351W I owned the power is unreal it makes the 351W seem 4 banger.
I loved the 460 I had in my old 77 I would compare the power of the 6.0 to the 460 I had but it was one trusty engine 8 to 10 mpg best
I don't know if all this rambling helped.
Good luck
Glen

Sounds about right for 4.30 gearing - unless you have oversized/undersized tires.
I have heard that some folks get about the same gas mileage as you, but it's rare. Maybe you need to do as cfd29 and dschuffert stated for awhile and find out for sure.

That's a very good point. I have a 3.73 limited slip rear end. What is your gearing?
My 7.3 does better by about 1 - 2 MPG if I keep it under 2000 RMP's. I have 3.73, so 2000 is somewhere between 70 and 75 mph, good for about 17 - 19 on the highway. I'm putting a 203 thermostat in tonight so I'm hoping to boost my mileage to 18 - 20 on the open road.
