Shiny or Standard

Looking at some Craftsman wrenches and can't make up my mind, shiny polished chrome or the standard Craftsman wrenches?

Which do you have and why?

I have always had the standard ones. But those shiny ones sure do look good. I may consider them when I get some more. I do need to add some more metric wrenches to my collection.

I use some of each at work, the chrome tools are easier to clean.

I use the standard, not the purdy shiney ones. I can see how they would be easier to clean. But I've always considered them to be extra Bling that just won't find a place in my workin' mans tool box.

The shiny ones are nice untill they get transmission fluid on them.

If you are just starting out, I'd go with the shiney ones for the cleaning aspect. They have had both at the garage, and the Line wrenchs seem to be so much better in the shiney ones, still not as good as the Snap~on ones or my old J.H. Williams made Kobalts. If money is tight, the regulars are on sale more.

That's a good point. I wouldn't want one to slip out of my grip and take the chance of busting my knuckles open or dropping the wrench and short circuiting across any exposed power cables.

Yeah, I've got those too, so I'll probably stick with the shiny ones although the standard ones look a little stronger. If they spread I'll take them back and get the standard;-)

I've also got a couple of Craftsman combo wrenches that, instead of saying Made in USA, say Japan. Kinda odd.

I have a few of those too. I thought it was odd too. The real odd thing is I have never broken one that was made in japan, but I would like to so I can get them replaced with american ones.

The standard ones always did ok for me, but I do like the feel of the professional ones.

I prefer the feel and cleanability of the shiny chromed tools. Thats the reason I like my old Craftsman round head ratchets better than the bench grinder ones. They conform better to my grip, and wipe clean really easy As for wrenches, I have standard cheapies, and then "proffesional" ratcheting wrenches.

Those of you worried about busted knuckles, need to invest in some good gloves

Real men don't wear gloves to work on their trucks. juskiddin. Some do. I don't.

As for seeing Made in Japan...sometimes Craftsman buys tools for best lot price and that means not always made in USA. I have a set of the 5 piece mini pliers/needlesnose/cutters that were made in Japan. Only had one of them give me a problem and my local Sears replaced it. I have no other complaints on them so far.
