Newbie with a ?

Hey everyone. I currently have a '98 Explorer XLT AWD and am considering moving up with the Family Plan offered by Ford. I'd like to get myself and family into an Excursion.

I've looked at the dealers within a 50 mile radius or so and most of the stock is Limited Models with the PSD. I'm only in need of an XLT with 6.8L.

Does anyone know the last official date that the public can order an Excursion before production ceases?

Would I still be eligible for the Family Plan and/or $2,000 rebate from Ford if I ordered an Excursion?

Thanks,
Eric

The XLT is actually a fleet model available only with the 5.4. I'd doubt you'd see one on a dealer lot. The base Excursion is an Eddie Bauer, and you might find one out there with a V10. Ordering is long gone with the Excursion, as is the model itself. It's currently in final build out.

I've seen a few XLT models here, one had the 5.4 and the other the 6.8. Most of the Limiteds and Eddie Bauers had the Diesel.

I'm still trying to verify the exact production end date with Ford, the Rep said 8/5 was the last order date from dealer to manufacturer.

The XLT's you are seeing are old invoices- neither are orderable anymore. I just checked again- final week of order acceptance 8/5, final week of production 9/30. However, allocations were written in stone months ago- so dealer may or may not have open allocation slot (everything still runs on allocations, whether it's a sold or stock order). Ford lists matierial constraints on Ex's for the 5.4, 6.8, and 6.0 motors (what's left?).

What confuses me is that you can still build the '05 on fordvehciles.com and build it any way you like (XLS, XLT, EB, Limited). I've found an XLT on the lot nearby with similar configurations as I'd like in Silver (which I don't like) with a build date of 2/05.

I called Ford Customer Service again yesterday and was told that the last order date as of June 5th was 8/5/05. We shall see.

I can't find a green XLT within 100 miles of here.

Ford is terrible at updating their specs. What is theoretically possible, and what can actually be done, aren't always one and the same.

Not that it matters at this point but I thought the SSV was the fleet model, the XLS the "value" model, XLT the mid-range model followed by the EB & Limiteds as the excessive ( ) models.

He also clearly stated that he wanted a 6.8L. Not the 5.4L.

"Value model" on a $45-$55K SUV- that's cute. Both "base models" were cancelled already earlier in the model year, and the fleet service unit never appeared in '06. Currently, the XLT/5.4 is the base model, and that's available only with a 5.4. From there we go directly to EB's and Limiteds. When you think about it, that makes sense- I couldn't even tell you what a LS 3.4T Suburban looked like- haven't seen one in years, except for the two I delivered to the local fire districts.

But I just bought an 05 XLS ($31K). And the XLT on a different island has the V10.

I'm confused but like I said before...it, unfortunantly, is a moot point.

You can find XLT models with the V-10 around these parts. I found one with a build date of 2/05. Does that mean they're still builidng them? Maybe, maybe not.

Considering they use both the 5.4 and 6.8 in pick-up models, I'm somewhat confident that either motor can be placed in the XLT.

P.S. - I did find the XLT I want, but it's in Silver and I hate Silver. So it is possible to find it equipped the way you want.
