front I- beam question

I recently got my truck home 1956 F-100, and it has no axles front or rear. A guy I work with has a 1963 F-100 for sale and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the track width is the same. I'm sure that the 9" will bolt right in but I'm not sure about the I-beam for the front. thanks Trevor

My guess would be no the front axle is to wide. Try getting the dimensions for a 56 from a forum member and maybe go to the next truck age range on the forum for a 63 and have someone measure theirs. I'll bet they help you out.

Good Luck, Dylan1952

Stock 53-56 front axles are fairly common due to all the front clip installs that get done. Keep your eyes open, one will pop up shortly. They're on Ebay all the time, although shipping is usually the killer.

If you are building on the dark side, then don't worry about a stock axle, just get a 2" dropped axle, reversed eye-centerbolt forward springs, extended draglink, HD tie rod, a set of used spindles, disk brake kit, and good shocks (parts you'd be likely to change anyhow) and you're good to go. Other alternatives would be the Volare IFS or Gibbons/Cordoba IFS. Both are relatively easy installs and the donor parts are very available and inexpensive.

I know that Midfifty's sells a drop straight axle for the 53 - 56 F100s. Look up www.midfifty.com.

I know from much searching that all of the year-groups of F100s have different springs, u-bolts, hanging brackets, steering, shock mounts, and most of the other hardward!

I'm running the 9" rear end from a 60 F100 and it works nicely. Actually the mounting plates are much heavier duty than the original 56 one. The front is a whole different animal and I'd go with the suggestions from the others. AX gave some excellent recommendations.
