I recently purchased a cb for my Ford Truck. I don't want to have the antenna permanently installed and am looking for a good antenna or a magnet mount. I will be hauling a fifth wheel. Any suggestions on what to buy or avoid?
just one question,, what type of c.b. are you planning to use? if you are just going to run a stock radio. i have to agree a WILSON is one of the best antennas, but a wilson 1000 is all you need for a stock appl. if you plan on running a box the 1000 will be fine up to 500 watts, anything bigger a wilson 5000 would be best. but everyone has there own favorite's to use, but i find that the wilson are the best for me. i switch back and forth between that one and a pair of k-40's dual mirror mount's. i get a kick out of them because i can make a few dollars on bets when i tell people i can lite florescent bulbs off of them by touching the antennas, it's pretty cool, but i do run a box though. have fun and may the skip be with you. c.j.

I run Ranger 2950 radio, with a 400 kicker, and a Wilson 1000 antenna ($60-75), with a ground plane screwed into it. The ground plane, has about 15 rods with rubber caps on the end, which we bought for $20. Here's a pic of what it looks like attached to my wilson.
I agree with the other post, go with a K40 or Wilson antenna. I want to be heard, when I offroad in the mountains.

I'll go with the crowd and add my applause for the Wilson. One item I disagree with though is the magnetic mount. a CB antenna's base should be grounded for maximum performance, and a magnet just don't get it. I bought a Wilson roof mount antenna and loved it! I had to drill a 7/8 hole in the roof for it, but your Ford is gonna be around for a long time, so make the commitment and do it up right. If you want to remove the antenna it comes with a weatherproof plug. You just unscrew the coil and screw the plug in. I've put a couple on for my friends. We just pull the dome light out, drill straight up through the roof, and screw the antenna in. a little work with the Dremel tool, and the coax is headed in to the molding and headed down to the rocker panel and the dash. and don't be fooled by the skinny little coax that comes with it. I run a Galaxy 88 and a Texas Star 350 and it gets out GREAT!
