thermostat housing
i have a 400 in my truck and under the thermostat is a plug with a hole in it. the port goes into the water pump. what is this for and what would happen if i take the plug out, if anything.

It could also be the restrictor depending on the size of the hole. If you take the restrictor out your engine will overheat. The restrictor is set up to control the rate of flow thru the engine so all areas get proper flow to remove the heat.
