Lowering Kit?

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a lowering kit for my 1977 F100 ShortBox? If so please tell me where to find one. If there is no suck kit how would I go upon doing it myself? Somone told me it is possible to shorten the springs? I have no idea what to do so anything you tell me would help. Thanks alot. Please email me at david_8184(No Email Addresses In Posts!).

I'd suggest giving Belltech a call to see if they have a kit for your truck.

Belltech, Incorporated
2822 East California Avenue
Fresno, California 93721

Phone:
Tollfree US: 800.445.3767
California and Outside US: 559.445.1602
Telefax: 559.445.0942

[link:www.belltechcorp.com|Belltech Sport Trucks]

I've lowered a few rigs with their kits and they are very high quality. I wouldn't go any other route unless they don't have something for your application. Good luck on your drop and post some pics when you are done!

Graffe.

Lowering Kit?

The only two companies that I've seen make the kits for 73-79, are AIM Industries & DJM Suspension, Bell Tech doesn't make anything earlier than '80

Lowering Kit?

Hello, Belltech makes great stuff, but they do not offer anything for the older Fords. I have used both AIM and DJM. I highly recommend the DJM over AIM. I had nothing but problems with AIM stuff on two seperate projects. DJM makes good quality stuff. With their I-beams, expect a 3 to 4" drop, and with their shackle kit for the rear, you will get a good 4". DO NOT cut your coil springs. I learned the hard way!!! If you do, you will have terrible alignment issues, and your truck will bottom out, even in small bumps in the road. To get your truck lower, you will have to use air bags, or convert your front end to a MustangII style. In the rear, a severe drop will dictate a C-notch in the frame. Let me know if you have any questions, I have dropped three 73-79 Fords, and a few newer trucks, and I will help all I can. Good luck Fomogo

Racerdave, I am not very good with computers, so I honestly don't know if I have Instant messenger or not, I will check with my wife!
For the front of your truck, you will need a set of lowered twin I beams. If you get the kit through DJM, the kit includes the necessary hardware, such as a new set of King pins. This is all nuts and bolts and pretty easy to do, but keep in mind that if your truck has never been apart, some bolts, and in particular the king pins are sometimes seized and require some work to get out. On the projects i have done, I have been lucky, and not had any such problems. DJM will recommend shorter shocks for the front, but I am running my original shocks without a problem. DJM sends their stuff in a black/silver wrinkle paint that i thought was tacky, so I painted mine black. Out back you will have to cut off the rivets on the spring hanger at the front of the spring, and bolt on the new bracket. At the rear of the spring, only the shackle is changed. This is all pretty simple, and DJM supplies everything necessary. I also had to modify my rear wheel opening bed brace slightly. You will certainly need shorter shocks on the rear, and I got those from DJM too! Plan on spending about $650.00 to get the entire thing done. I changed tires and wheels too, so my expense went through the roof! Click on the picture of my truck and you can see how mine sits. Keep in mind that my truck is a 5000 mile original, and had little if any normal settlement from original. Most rucks will be a little lower than mine. Since the photos were taken last year, the truck has settled about 1" more front and rear, and actually looks even better now. I have 17" wheels with pretty tall tires as well. I hope this helps, and you can e-mail me at keimig@charter.net if you need some more help. FOMOGO

Lowering Kit?

I used the A.I.M. kit and am not really happy. I have a slight pull and bump steer to the left that is irritating. After I eliminate all the other possibilites I am going to change back if I cannot get rid of the problem.

Thanks alot sounds fairly simple...... Somthing I can do with what kind of tools? I am planning on buying new tires and wheels, and hopefully geting an air compressor and airtools for christmas...... but yeah I dont want to buy the kit and not have the gear to put it in. if you could email me and tell me what tools that would be great. my email address is David _ 8184 @ hotmail . com without the spaces.
