I'm restoring a 73 F100 with a 390 C6. My engine upgrades will have me in the 350 - 400 hp range. I've completed the engine and now I'm rebuilding the transmission. There was nothing wrong with the trans...I just wanted to build it while I had the engine and trans out. My original plan was to just do a standard rebuild (master rebuild kit, clutches and plates, band, remanufactured converter) plus add a shift kit. After a little research, I'm wondering if I shouldn't go further. This list of possible upgrades I've found are:
1. modifications to allow for additional clutches and plates
2. changing thrust bushings out for needle thrust bearings
3. upgraded servo
4. lower 1st and 2nd gear set
5. wider band
Any suggestions on these or other performance modifications? The truck will also have 3.5 gears and a powertrax locker rear end with 31" tires.
Is this in a 2wd or 4x4 truck? I reccomend the servo. It will allow for harder shifts and to help keep things from slipping. You may want the lower gears for off roading.
