Does anyone know what the rollers are that come with the aftermarket front hinge kits? I know that the hinge/pivot assembly is from a BMW, but the roller doesn't look anything like anything in the BMW explosion books. I need to finish the fab work on these, they are the only thing holding me up from going to the body shop. The vendors won't give up any info. Thanks in advance.........
FF, the rollers are not available so says my buddy that just made his own kit. But I can tell you that he used a substitute. He took two wheels off of a roller blade that kids ride on. He removed the outside rubber donut, and viola' he had very nice rollers for his hood. {-} Jag
Thanks, Jag. One of the things I have looked at is skate board wheels, we thought we could chuck 'em up and mill a groove. I will check out the roller blade thing.
rollers??? I don't need no steekin rollers! I am midway through front hinging my hood, and have designed hinges that are so simple that I don't know why they haven't been done before. Stay tuned for pictures when I've finished!
Could you use rollers from sliding doors or roll up garage doors? They come in a lot of different sizes for different weight doors up to sliding barn doors. You may need to remove the nylon "tire" tho.
Fenders, Thats a bummer that McMaster didn't have them. You might search their catalog anyway and see if there are any that might work. Sometimes the people you talk to their get a little confused or might not fully understand what you are trying to do. Try a local hardware store, don't limit your search to strictly automotive stores.
Do you have a army surplus store around? Or try an online search for companies that sell parts to robotics entusiasts or science fair type stuff.
Ax, can't wait to see the pics of the finished hinge
Once more: I picked up some flanged nylon bushings at my local Ace Hdwr store to use in my hinges. you could use two on a shaft or bolt with the flanges to the outsides to create a flanged roller.

The ones on my hood remind me of nylon rope pulleys. You might check with marine supply houses to see if you could adapt a 1/4 or 3/8" rope pulley to your needs. Just a thought.
I like the idea about the rope pulley also. I believe that I have seen those at hardware stores like Ace or OSH. The were on a bracket, but you could remove the pin and replace it with a shoulder bolt. Jag
I took apart one of those nylon rope pulleys to use as the bearing for an exercise wheel I built for my pet hedgehog. Worked great, no noise while she exercised (Hedgies are nocturnal)
