The other day I was in my local Ford dealership buying a new Five hundred for my wife. While I was waiting to fill out the paperwork I noticed a big display in the showroom about the trucks (F-150's) versus the competition.
In short the display had pictorials and small displays comparing everything from the frames to suspension pieces to fenders and bumpers on the Ford trucks to all the competition.
I have had my 04 FX4 for about 8 months and am a diehard Ford man but this was really interesting. It really made me a believer in how tough these trucks are compared to the others. It might not be as fast as the others but I definitely think Fords are tougher. If you don't believe stop by your dealership and look for this display. I think anyone would be impressed.
Talk to someone who has been in a major collision in a ford as compared to a chevy, toyota, dodge or Nissan. the difference is clear, built ford tough.
I saw that display too, very impressive. Folks were joking about the huge tow eyes on a Ford compared to a Chevy or Dodge being necessary. I agree. I know if I was going to winch myself out of a tight spot (and most off-roaders will at some point), I'll take ford's answer on those also.
I bought my F150 after I saw one at my brother's body shop that had hit another truck. The accident destroyed the other truck but the F150's damage was limited to the front sheet metal, one control arm and a tie rod end (appears to be the weakest link). The damage was $8,000 but the other truck was not repairable at any cost (it was the prior generation Ford).
there is a link on the nhtsa web site that shows the frontal impact studies on the chevy 1/2 ton and the F150 and bottom line is if God forbid I'm in a accident pls let me be in my truck
