Ford 10.25 question

Who has had the 10.25 w/ full floating axles apart? What I see and what the shop manual seems to back up is that there is no separation of lubricants from the outer bearings and the differential lube. This puzzles me, in that the manual says to grease the bearings... I have trouble with a leaky seal letting all the grease and lube into the brake drum area. I suspect the housing where the seal runs is not smooth enough for it to seal. I hope I don't have to get a whole new housing.

Any ideas/tips/suggestions?

Thanks!

Bob

Yessir, try a nice quick touchup with some emery cloth to clean up the outter seal area, little carb spray for clean up, then a very very thin smear of RTV sealer before tapping the seal in. And when you put the hub back on, put a wee bit of gear lube on the rubber sealing part to prevent messing it up durring installation. Thats all i can offer as of now for ya, hope it helps ya out.

The reason for greasing the bearings before reassembling is the bearings would otherwise be dry on the first drive until the gear oil works its way though the outer bearing to the inner bearing. This cases big dammage. The grease is there until the gear oil gets to the inner bearing then dissolves. That gives the bearings long life with no damage.

Yeah,

I had thoughts along those lines, but I remember also the talk of "no mixing of different types of lubricants." I just wanted to be sure What I was reading was the thing to do.

Thanks.
