here diesel is 2.98 and on the grapevine it was 3.11 and the same for regular. the gas station next to my house wants 2.69 for reg and 2.89 for premium.
I am about 50 miles due South of Chicago and avoid using Shell Diesel. About half-way through a tank the PSD takes longer to start, and it feels like a power decrease or loss of performance. It takes another tank of a high volume truck stop fuel for things to come back. At first I thought it may have been the local station I bought the fuel at, maybe too low a volume and the fuel sits too long. But I tried a few Shell stations in the area and it seems to give me the same results. Now I stick with BP or Pilot and the problems don't surface anymore.
My area the local Shell is $2.30 as I filled today.....46 gallon tank.
Chevon, Citco, and BP all about the same here.
I also noticed a slight improvement with Shell but don't know why???
I live in So Cal, Orange county.. no truck stops close...Shell in Costa Mesa is $. 10 to $.25 cheaper than all the rest and about a dozen of my buddies all buy from the same station and we never have had problems I know of. I used a lot of Chevron on my 3000 mile trip and no problems either. Stanadyne in every tank....J.D.
and whats sick is with my heavy foot that won't last me till fri. i pay about 200 a week when i drive my truck. i average about 3,500 to 4,000 miles a month. i go through about 270 gallons a month when i drive my truck i fill up at least 7 times. and thats if i'm lucky and get 14 mpg in the 428. thats 780.00 a month
Hey at least they are now doing $75 on the pre-authorization on the credit cards now at the pumps instead of the $50. Hate to think when they will have to do $100..
Thank you Chris, I thought I was the only one that thought that was really pointless, but the more I think about probably the truer it is. $50.00 limit would only get them a half of tank in some states if they stole your credit card, they would have to stop twice as often and leave a big credit card trail behind.
If any of you are traveling Highway 287 this year on vacation or just passing thru Dumas Texas be advised to avoid the Murphy Oil price at Wally World. They are selling city water at a much greater price than the city charges for it. When I first got my truck I filled up there every time for about four months. Had to drain the water out of my fuel filters finally wound up having to change the filters and drain about a gallon of water out of the tank.
Just got back from Florida, and used Shell as often as possible because of the cash back credit card. In some areas Shell was just as cheap, if not cheaper than other brands. I lament being back in New York, where you never find a Shell station selling diesel.
I also noticed that you could no longer count on the price of fuel according to the state you were in. Georgia (El Cheapo $2.35) used to be very cheap, not much different than Florida now.
The cheapest fuel I bought was at a LOVES truck stop in Virginia, at the NC state line (exit 4) $2.25. To the best of my knowledge Virginia was never a terrific place to fuel up, go figure.
Another phenomena, the $75 pump cut off. Very annoying, seeing how I always take on more than that amount.
