I have a 2002 Excursion V-10 and have recently purchased a 33 foot travel trailer, even with the weight stabilization system we still have a sagg, the Excursion came with a towing package, I have heard talk about air shocks, air bags and a timbren system, does anyone have any experience with this
Thanks
What kind of WD bars do you have? Maybe they are not rated high enough or maybe the hitch is at the wrong angle. With the proper WD bars and setup I cannot see how 950# sags the rear of an Ex.
If you don't have the hicth set at the proper angle the effect of the WD is diminished or lessened. Tilt the head back toward the trailer..this will drop the tips of the WD bars toward the ground. You will need to apply more load to lock them in and therefore create more of a lever action.
If the bars are under rated you cannot apply enough load to create the distribution you need to level things out.
Just like concretecamper said adjust the tilt in the hitch head first and check the weight on the bars. I think mine are good for 1200lbs and I am going through what you are right now. I am going to tilt my hitch head back some and do my trip to Disney in 2 weeks then I will decide on beefing up the truck suspension or not. I have about the same weight as you and I think it should do fine.
Thanks guys I tilted the head back, I have 1000# springs on my WD, I will give this a try, should you add more washers to keep the space or adjust with adjustment bolt on bottom
Thanks

From your statement, I would assume you have the Equal-i-zer hitch. You will need to add washers to tilt farther back, then tighten the bottom bolt. If you leave the bottom bolt loose, you are putting slop into the hitch head. Also, you rtongue weight of 950#, is this brochure weight or fully loaded trailer? My tongue weight by the brochure is 920#, but in real life it is 1100-1150# depending on what I have loaded in my trailer. I use the 1200# bars. Also, 900#+ on the back of a stock Excursion WILL cause it to sag. My front drops 1/4-1/2" and the rear drops 1" when I hook up my trailer using a Equal-i-zer WD hitch.
I agree that with an unloaded tounge weight of 950, when loaded it will most likely be around 1100 or so lbs, and the X will sag some. My tounge weight is about the same as yours and I use a Hensley Arrow hitch with 1400 lb spring bars. With the spring bars tightened all the way up, the X still sags some. I have pulled for two years with it sagging a little without a problem. Last week I installed Firestone airbag helpers. I haven't pull the trailer with the airbags yet so I can't say how it will work, but it certainly makes the X sit up good and really improves the driving. Additionally, the airbags have not affected the great ride of the X.
