8.8 to 9" swap

My 8.8 in my 83 F100 is on its last legs. Will a 9" go right in or will I run into any problems with the swap. I think I heard where the 9" yoke sets off center a little. Somebody else said I may have to change the hangers too.

Won't it just swap right in there?

I looked into doing this in my truck awhile ago. I didn't find any problems that I would run into, except MAYBE that the drive line might be a little to long when you swap the 9" in. Also, I'm pretty sure you can find 9" rears under light duty pick ups into 83-84?

If the driveshaft ends up being too long, can you adjust it with the hangers or sliding it back on the springs?

No, The spings have a set spot that the rear end HAS to go, in order for it to stay in place, Plus you have to have enough space for the slip yoke to slide.

The only way to move it back it to re-locate the springs, hangers, etc.

The cheapest, the right way, and the smartest way is to just have drive shaft shortend.

'83? My '85 E150 has a 9 inch. Did someone swap the 8.8 in there?

You should be able to find stock parts to do the swap.
