the cam is spinning. there is a small chip on one if the dist gear teeth on the cam but not too bad.
a thought occured to me. my engine was turning without oil pressure for a period of maybe 20-30 seconds as i coasted in gear before it stopped. i wonder how much damage was done. either way it will probably just get the new oil pump and dist gear. if it gets worse than that i'll have to part the truck out. it's not worth throwing much money at.
it does crank normally with the starter, and the cam is turning. i will check the oil pump as suggested.

With the distributer removed, when you crank it will not spin the oil pump so if you think its not spinning normally your problem is deeper then the oil pump or distrubuter. posibly a bearing?
before you spend any money id want to find out what happened and why and what all the damage is.
did you check the oil pump and distributer to see if it spins freeley?
distrubutor does spin freely. i'll have to look deeper at the oil pump. i'll be pulling the oil pan to remove debris from the busted dizzy gear and to look for other obvious damage. maybe i'll pull a main bearing and see if there's anything left. my gut feeling is that a new oil pump and dizzy drive gear will get her running again well enough to plow snow and collect firewood, that's all i need, even if it burns more oil.
