got the guys at my local muffler shop to put on the btm today... really glad i had them do it.. the mech did a great job...! he said it was a little bit of a trick, mostly just getting the original one off... he told me it took 2 guys to do it..! he said the muffler must have had a lot of miles on it.. i said... yeah 93k on the truck and that is the original muffler... he looked at me and asked the question i get so often... "that truck has 93k on it...? man... that truck looks really good for that kind of mileage..." soo true..!
anyway... the btm looks like it belongs on my mule... it sounds really good... not too loud, but a bit louder than before.. throtle response seems a little better.. i haven't towed with it yet, but egts do seem a little lower... towing the 5ver will be the real test... and the egts seem to come down a tic quicker when you let up on it... there is a little bit of flutter you can hear and feel at the end of the pipe... i quess the stock muffler really did restrict the flow... one other thing... i think the cooldown is quicker...
Johnny, did you happen to unbolt the rear section of your exhaust to hear what the straightpipe sounded like before you put on the BTM? I'm curious to know how big of a difference there is between straight pipe and the Walker. I just unbolted off my rear section where the muffler is at and I was a little surprised about how it isn't very loud. There's a lot of turbo whistle but I was expecting the straightpipe to be much louder. The turbo must muffle a lot of the engine noise.

John.....the flutter you spoke about.....is that a charactoristic of the muffler or would someone need to install something like a Banks "Big Head" actuator to get rid of it? Or should it just be accepted and go on?

i had it put on so i did not get to straight pipe it... there is no restriction to the btm so i don't think there is a huge difference.. maybe some more whistle... not sure... my mech said that diesels aren't as loud.. i think the turbo does dampen the exhaust noise also... not sure... i remember reading about that in a couple of places...

i think the flutter may be a characteristic of the turbo diesel.. if you listen closely to a stock exhaust i think you will hear the same thing, but it is muffled by the muffler... imagine that...! seriously i think i have heard this before just not this noticable.. now with the free flowing btm i really noticed it at idle.. sounds impressive...! you can clearly hear the whistle of the turbo even at idle.. it reminds me of the old duece and a halfs that i used to drive when i was in the army reserves...! i loved those old mules to... they weren't fast, but they had a rugged appeal to them... if you remember the first Rambo movie, i'm talking about the army truck that he used to drive right over the police cars with near the end of the movie... rugged trucks...!
one other thing... i don't think the big head is worth getting... i just disconected mine and bingo... boost up the ying yang...! free mod that really helps cut down on the turbo lag...!
