I must say I am immpressed.................great tone, and not too loud, just a little louder than stock. The turbo spools up faster, and it does not seem to have to down shift too much.
Mine is an early 99 so it had a converter, that got taken out, with a straight pipe, and the stock muffler got replaced with the Walker BTM, I really like the sound.
I should be all set for the SCMT 1705, and the pyrometer thats in the mail
I have heard that this Walker BTM lowers EGTs nicely. I looked at it pretty good before I installed it. Its a straight through muffler. Pretty much a straight pipe with baffles.
Thought I would share my experiences, as this seems to be a great alternative to exhaust without spending $400-800.
Walker BTM $60
3.5 in clamps $10
3.5 in pipe 20 in $17
What does the "BTM" stand for and where you get your muffler? I have been considering replacing my muffler only, if I could find something thae inexpensive that would show a significant reduction in exhaust temps and decrease in backpressure over the stock muffler. Mine is an '01 with no cat.
BTM = Big Truck Muffler, I got mine through Napa under Napa Quiet Flow # 21470
Its made my Walker and that #21470 should come up as a valid walker and Napa part number when you ask for it.
I thought I would try it, and I was immpressed when I saw it, it's literally a straight threw muffler. I am not really concerned with how much power it added, as it is pretty nill, but did it for later use with a programmer to help keep EGTs down.
But I have noticed that the Turbo spools up faster and it doesnt downshift as much. And I think it has a very good tone, and not that much louder than stock.
Good luck, I think its an excellent alternative to buying a whole exhaust system
also, since I was rearranging the whole exhaust from the downpipe back, I had to do some welding, and re-arranging of pipes, and also rearranging of hangers, and re-welding. So it took me a couple hours to complete.
Most other applications, where you are just replacing the muffler, it should be an easy job. Mine was a little more complicated with the cat involved and all. But the fit ended up great.
I had to swap wheels around in the welder as the stock exhaust has some stainless in it. And it was tough getting to the topside of the joints, on my driveup lift.......but the extra work was worth it and it came out good...........
