79 4x4 rear sump pan capacity question

I have a fresh 300 to 400 swap in a 79 4x4 with a rear sump pan, with provisions for a dipstick coming out of the pan, which I plugged due to interference problems with the headers. So I got a Mr. Gasket dipstick for the block, but it is for the 351C. I just tapped it on down past the mounting bolt. I was told the capacity is 7 Qts, including the qt. for the filter. My dipstick registers to the "add" mark. I can get used to adding oil when the level drops to the end of the dipstick, but I would like to know if I am at the right capacity. Suggestions accepted, where can I get the proper dipstick for this setup?

The factory pan is 6 qts, including filter. In fact all ford trucks were 6 quarts...
