Hey guys, I'm sure this has been hashed a lot here but I'm new to this site and am really looking forward to learning more about my 400 ford. I am building a 1979 supercab 4x4 with a 77 400 engine. I was wanting to know where I can get forged or hyperutectic flat top pistons for it? The block is a virgin and I will probably go with .030 overbore to clean it up otherwise I want a stock reliable build with about 9.5 compression. Thanks for the info. Marty
Check out TMI (sponsor). He also has recent posts on his new forged flat tops etc. I'll probably be ordering some next week. Or some Badgers if they are more readily available. http://www.tmeyerinc.com/
There are some great build options. I would really hesitate to go 030 on a virgin unless I had to. I have a '71 block at the machine shop that had original Stock flattops and I will be ecstatic if I can go 010 or 020. I want to be able to rebuild it again some day and with 040 as max...well, you get the pic.
I'm really interested in what tmi is doing with the stroker crank- 4 bolt mains etc. That may be my next build. Also if you go with aussie 302 heads, tmi forged flatheads he wil machine the pistons to make sure you get the compression you want and you will have a most impressive motor. I'm learning that good blocks are more difficult to come by- or it so it seems.
