Bumper drop

I was told to beware of front bumper drop on Rangers. This is where the wrapped around portion under the fenders starts tipping down.

Anyone experience this? If so, what causes this, and what can be done to repair, or better yet to prevent this?

Are you referring to the plastic inside the wheel-wells, or the plastic under the bumper?

I do know that I have never had any troubles with the plastic inside the wheel-wells and have never heard of anyone else having them. I also know that if you hit a small dog at 60Mph the plastic under the bumper tends to break (but nothing JB Weld can't fix). Other than that this is the first I have ever heard of it...but we have a lot of members here, maybe one of them have.

I have been looking around here in the "rust belt" of our fine nation and I have seen a few demonstrations of the entire front bumper tipping as if the side braces break, or give out. Rust is indigionous to our vehicles here due to salted winter roads, so I intend to winterize all of the fasteners involved with this bumper. Hopefully that will prevent this problem.

Rangers have been made for several years; what year are we talking about here?

I would thing that if the brackets were weakend enough for the bumper to droop, then they are ready to fall off. I think it's more likely the angle is caused by bending from... bumping.

i dont know what causes this. but my best friends 94 f150 front bumper apears to "sag" at the corners but all the hardware and supports at fine on it. it has droped a full inch off the fender line on both sides but its straight in the center... my guess is cheep metal or the way its molded ( the supports dont do enough / or they aren't positioned right to prevent this. the supports are positioned for front impacts more than "sag")

Smile Front Buimper Drop

Greetings,

I to have a ranger that exp. the bumper drop...If you were to clime under and look @ the inside of the bumper..there are 2 bolts on each side of the frame rails. These bolt holes are adjustable and over time they will start to slide down giving the bumper that unfortunate sag in the back...

The most simple solution is to check these bolts...loosen, readjust the bumper and retighten the bolts.

To fix the sag on my Ranger, I loosened the bolts furthest out to the sides on the bumper bracket, used a floor jack and a block of wood to lift the corner of the bumper up, and then CRANKED those blots back down.

Thank you for your responses, everyone. In my case, I drive a '98 basic Ranger, and my bumper isn't drooping yet. But I intend to check the bolts mentioned and be sure it doesn't happen. Thanks again.
