Hello,
Okay from the beginning. Over the past few weeks i have noticed when i take off from a stop and the tranny shifts to second it jerks a little and took a second longer to shift. It really wasn't bad, so i checked the fluid and it was fine. Full, nice color, and no burnt smell. well a couple of day ago i was driving it and took off from a stop and it would not shift from first. It wasn't slipping, it just wouldn't shift. Still no burnt smell or anything. So i decided to change the fluid and filter( i know ford recommends not to). After doing so it drove the same as before. It would shift but hard and take a while. Well today i was driving it and it was doing the same, then i stopped at home for a few min. took back off and it would not shift. i don't know what to think. the fluid is good and is not burnt, and it shifts normal once it get past first. Once agains it is not slipping, the tranny is engaged and the car will drive. but it's like i only have one gear sometimes.i have been looking at alot of articles and cannot find one like this. If anyone has any ideas i would appreciate it. One thing i did find is the alot of people seem to be putting a computer( like one from superchips) in their expeditions because they say you can adjust shift points and firmness of shifts. if anyone can confirm this or add to it that would be great.
thanks
patrick

Does your overdrive light work. The reason I ask is this is the light used for indicating drive train faults. If it does work I am sure you would have noticed if it was flashing?
okay, today i got ahold of a friend who works at a shop and we hooked a computer up to it and it threw codes 781 and 782. and those mean 1-2 shift problems and 2-3 shift problems. and then driving it home it would not shift at all when i put it in regular drive. i had to drive home in second gear and that is the highest gear i have. so i am lead to believe it is the 1-2 and the 2-3 shift solenoids. if anyone has had this problem and knows about how much it would cost to fix if it were the solenoids please let me know. by the way the fluid is still full, looks good and does not have a burnt smell, so i believe the tranny is still good. i hope.
Keep us posted on this issure. I have been experiencing similar issues with my '03 Expy, though not nearly as pronounced as yours. Sometimes when I slow to round a corner and then accellerate again, it seems like it doesn't know what gear to go into, so it shudders and then bumps into gear, or sometimes it almost grinds into gear. I ordered the SCT tuner so hopefully that will fix the problem with adjusted shift points.
well tomorrow morning my father is taking it to a local tranny shop in town, so hopefully i will know something tomorrow night. when i told him what was going on he seemed to think it was the torque converter. i hope it's that or the shift solenoids and the tranny does not need a rebuild. i will keep you guys updated.
