i have decided that i am not going to bring my truck back to school in the spring, too worried something might happen to it, so i decided to put it in the garage back home where no one will touch it and i can drive it when i am home. but i have been thinking that with it in the garage it will give me enough time to do the things to it which i have wanted to do for a while. like rebuild the front suspension and add a sawy bar front and rear. but i was also thinking about upgrading my rear brakes on my dana 60 to discs. found this place that sells a kit. looked around and even priced doing it my self with my own part shopping, but it came out to be about the same, so i am wondering if anyone here has ever done the same thing, and if so, what were the draw backs, set backs.
here is the web link.

i checked the tech articles here, and i couldnt find anything about this swap, but i did find an article on changing an older model to front discs. so now i am thinking that when i do it in the spring i can do a tech article on it, and maybe get it posted on here. but besides that i checked on the bronco.com and i couldnt find anything. but from the looks of it the tsm kit is pretty complete, and the total cost for everything i will need is about 650 dollars, which is not much more that what i priced for if i were to do it myself and fabricate my own brakets. half the cost is calipers so thats where i made my decision, i want new rear calipers if i am going to spend a lot of money on them. so i guess now all i have to do is start saving and then get everything done then relay the information back here. wish me luck in the future.

I performed this upgrade myself on my F350 4x4 (factory equipped with front & rear Dana 60s. Used new rotors for intended for front axle of a 78 3/4 ton GMC 4x4 (they fit right on the factory Dana 60 hub after the old brake drum is removed). Fabricated my own caliper brackets (not too complicated - flat 1/4" steel, cut to fit, position caliper before caliper mounting holes drilled). Get proper sized drill bit and tap as a set to thread holes for caliper bolts so threads wind up perfect. Bought new rebuilt calipers and pads for same 78 GMC. Find patient parts guy to find brake hoses to go from axle to caliper so caliper can be removed for service without removing line (I think a mid 80s Impala is close). Stock master cylinder/ proportioning valve works fine.
Some fabrication skills required, plus allowing "Brand X" parts on your Ford, but 100% improvement on my beast w/ 12" lift/44s/460 in stopping power, plus no more brake drums to get filled up with mud. Cost two days and about $200.00 for parts.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-02 AT 11:02 PM (EST)]i've posted this before but i know the search function has been eratic lately so here is the original thread i posted in. scroll down to my post and you will see a link to a 3/4 ton disc swap. as a side note i suggest using late 70's cadillac rear calipers. they are the same as the front ones mentioned in this thread but have an emergency brake built in. good luck, hawkrod
