I have an 05 PSD F-250. When I am towing and going up an incline, my temp guage will start to climb. I have only owned gas engines before. Is this normal for diesels?
I've had the needle just below the red line. When I let off of the gas, the needle comes down slowly. For a new truck to be doing this...makes me wonder.
First what kinda load are you pulling??? How fast were you trying to pull it??? BUTT either way i dont think it should be moving...Now im down here in FL. I dont pull very heavy loads and the nearest thing to an incline here is boat ramps haha...I would def go get it checked out.....
I live in San Diego California, and pull a 10,000 lb trailer when it's fully loaded. I don't think it would be overheating since it's within the load constraints of the truck. Also, the fastest i go is 60 mph.
Temperature Gauge Reads Hot, 05 F-Series:
Some trucks built before 12-10-04 may have a temp gauge reading at the top of the green normal band or into the red hot band, with normal coolant temperatures. If no overheat condition is present, the instrument cluster should be replaced. If there is a code in the engine computer for ECT over 240 degrees, or if coolant is being expelled from the degas bottle, do not replace the cluster. Diagnose the overheat condition.

Great to hear thanks. Since I bought it in October, I am fairly certain that it was built before December (and it's nice to know i have had no other signs of overheating). I appreciate the help.
