code 179 poor gas milage

i have 93 f150 4.9l 6. and I'm getting a code 179 i replaced o2 sensor next to cat. I cleared code and it came back. i noticed that my air filter was clogged so i changed that. could that cause this problem? also lost about 50 mile per tank of gas. any ony have any tips?

Did you clear the codes after you replaced the air filter? What model and year truck?

Clear codes, and replace the fuel filter. That will help millage some.

i have 1993 f150 with the 4.9l 6 and yes but i hav'nt hab a chance to drive it to see if it comes back on.

179 is rich code...and you lost 50miles you say, so Im betting your O2 sensor was just doing its job(setting RICH) and needed no replacement.

Some things to check:
-High Fuel pressure (most common problem)
*Check it at the fuel rail valve...on the I6, the pressure should be 55PSI at idle.
-Leaking Injectors
*See how fast the fuel pressure bleed down is.
-O2 sensor stuck in LEAN mode.
*Replace O2 sensor
