got timing cover off and found that cam gear has five teeth sheered off. the problem now is how to take out the oil pan with the enigine still in the truck
we were thinking of jacking the transmission and loosening the engine mounts to make clearance for the crossmember please help thanks oldbad69
I posted in other spot...but I'll repeat myself. So.............I'll repeat myself...............So.................uh, oh, um....
Yup, take bolt out of mount, jack motor and place 2x4 under mount to support motor. I would jack it from crank snout(using a block of wood to keep from marring snout). Get it up as high as possible and block it. This way you can pull jack out and have room to work. Done it on a 302 once.....it's a pain but very possible.
how many miles are on the engine. where have the missing teeth gone? how long did you run the engine before discovering this info. you may find lots of metal shavings in your oil pan and it may save you some time to rebuild now before the metal shavings tear up your crank, rod and cam bearings, creating even more problems$$$.
another option would be to lift the engine using a hoist. take a good look at the oil and what is deposited in the pan. cheers, garsten
