5.4 vs Hemi
I have an 04 FX4 with 3:55 gears, short bed regular cab. My buddy has a 05 Dodge Hemi short bed, 4X4, regular cab with simular gearing. He has been on me for the past 4 months to run him and I finally relented last night. We let the traffic light start us and I pulled him 5 truck lengths off the light, but he out pulled me going into high gear and won by about 5 truck lengths in the quarter mile. We did it again with virtually the same result. Both trucks are bone stock. Has anyone had any experience going up against the Hemi? As a side bar, anytime we go somewhere together he wants to ride in the Ford. Go figure?

He just pulled me pretty steady thru a 1000' and had me 5 lengths thru the lights. I seem to have him on the bottom end but his extra 50 horses gets me at the top. We drag raced all thru the late 60's and early 70's so it is not like we haven't been there before.

I HAD a Hemi. It was a pretty good motor...from drivin it though your results are pretty much what I would have guessed. I had fairly low # gearing 4x4 sb reg cab 1500-totally stock, and it was pretty sluggish at low rpms because of the gearing, couldn't hold 5th gear going up hills on the freeway, but yeah it would downshift and SCREAM if I asked it to!!! All in all not bad but would have been better with some 3.90's or 4.10's to put it in the power band more of the time.

I raced my dads 2004 HEMI 3/4 ton 4+4 quadcab w 3.73 gears and the hemi against my 04 FX4 scab with 3.73 gears and beat him by 1 truck length in the 1/4 but he was pulling on me a bit at the end. I was about 1/2-1 truck length ahead from start to finish. If his truck was a half ton I'm sure I would have been smoked. He has 750 pounds on me but 45 horses and 10lbs/ft of torque. But i beat my friends 04 GMC extended cab 4+4 with the 5.3 with 4.10 gears too and I weigh 700 pounds more than he does and I have 15 horses and 30lbs/ft torque more.
