Rear End Broke Help

My 91 Bronco, 5.8L E4OD 8.8, Made a loud clunk. I looked under it and saw gear oil leaking, under closer inspection I so a hole in the cover. So I pulled the cover and the lube was full of water. Their are two ring gear bolts are missing and another is sheared off. I found the head of the one bolt in the bottom of the rear end. I also found a end peice of another wedge between the housing and a diff cap. No other bolts found. The excitor ring is mangled and I can't find where to get one. Any idea what cuased this, where to get a knew ring, and if just replacing the ring, bolts and cover will fix the problem. No damaged to the gears as far as I can see.

Gear sets can be found all over the internet. I would guess that your axle seals(they should be out near the tires at the end of the tubes)are or were blown out allowing water to leak into the case/differential. Gears and water do not mix and would eventually blow the rear end out. Usually when these seals go out you will have gear oil leaking down onto the rear tire associated with that side. My other guess would be that your vent tube is broken/missing and allowing water to get into the gears. Anyway, you will have to break it down to find what caused it and proceed with repairs or replace the entire unit.

A failure like this requires full tear down and cleaning if not replacement of bearings and probably the gears. Or, replace what you need to to make it move, and pack it with sawdust and bananas and patch the cover with JB Weld and trade it in.
