Representin' The 6.
Bottom line cubic inch for cubic inch the inline six will outpull a V-8 any day.
I cut good lights all night, I was very happy with the way I drove but the better equipped truck won.
A very postive note to all of this was after we got home last night my wife asked me "what will it take for you to win."
Wooohooooo!
Aussie locker makes a lunch box locker for the Ford 8.8 that's pretty reasonable at less then $250 and it's got a nice warranty.
I may just weld the front but before I do that I want to have either replacement parts at the ready or a D60 waiting to be swapped in after breakage.
I was giving thought to a Ford big block to pull to pull in the heavier classes but last night reaffirmed that the Ford 300 is one of the best engines ever made.
I don't have time or $$$ to do much before hand to do much but I am going to look for some cheap tires to carve up for the rear.
A couple of pics from the last pull
Coming off the scales:

Having at it:
This is the first truck vs. truck that I know of at a Co. Fair around here.
We have a huge pull in May during the 4X4 Jamboree at the Auglaize Fairgrounds on the concrete slab. The turnout is always super with quite a few show trucks hooking up. Typically, 5000-7,000+ people usually attend with over 100 trucks pulling
The pics you see above are from a pull held in a recently wheat field. It's an annual event called the Hillbilly Truck pulls. All proceeds go to the Spencerville Invincible Fire Dept and the FFA.
The same group that holds the HBTPs were approached by the Auglaize Co. Fair to see if they would organize the event.
Here's hoping the first Co. Fair truck vs. truck event goes well and that there's a Ford 300 up on the podium somewhere.

Yes, the saturday night of the Jamboree over at the Auglaize Co. fairgrounds, they have a two class pull, rain or shine. It's an offshoot of the pull that was held at the L&G truckstop in Wapak.
6500 and 9500 are the classes. No restrictions that I know of.

Lima actually is an acronym, it stands for Lost in middle America.
The Jamboree is a great time and it seems to get better each year.
On another positive note, I got the Aussie locker for the rear ordered.

I dont live in Lima, I live about 1 hour and 30 minuites south of it. There is a cracker barrel about 20 minutes away, but I've never ate there.

I've never been to the 4wd jamboree, because our prom is that same weekend, but all my buddies go.
I had some concern about the lash between the locker and the pinion shaft though after the install was done. There was quite a bit of slop so I called Aussie to confirm that I had the correct locker and what the lash should be after the install.
I talked to "Bill" about the install and my concern about the lash. He confirmed the part #s but couldn't give me any other info about the lash.
All other measurements checked to Aussie Locker's specs so I decided to take it out for a spin.
It clunked fairly loudly leaving the garage twice but it survived two clutch dump torture tests on the initial test ride. The dual rooster tails of dirt made me smile. When I tested it on the road, the truck hopped pretty severely even with my ladder bars. I got out to look at the tire marks and both tires showed the same pattern.
Drove it 40 miles after with no issues. I'll let you know how it performs tomorrow.
good job on your initial truck pulling event. hope that locker works out for you.

Engine is in a 1989 F150 4X4 that has been regeared front and rear to 4.10s. Total cost for parts and machining ran about $2700 for the engine.
If I had to do it over again I would probably not go the BBC roller route and just use the correct rollers. There was added cost machining the pedastals down for the BBCs along with the added expense of the guideplates and the learning curve figuring out why I was snapping .080" wall pushrods.
The Aussie tech just called me and said that the lash was normal, I'm pretty relieved there.
