I just ordered a 4-inch Tuff Country suspension lift and they say the stock driveshafts are fine for that lift. I didn't think it would be an issue, but it's easy to shoot off an email to ask for sure, and they were very prompt in responding. (By the way, this isn't an endorsement for them or their lifts, all things considered that's just what I decided to go with.) Don't know about any higher than that, though I suspect you'd probably still be okay up to 6 inches. I never considered going that high though, so if you are you'll need to find out from somewhere else. There are some generally recognized guidelines you can probably pick up by researching these forums, but I'd still recommend checking out web sites for the manufacturers of any lift kits you're interested in. Ideally they should indicate whether drive shafts, brake lines, the pitman arm or anything else needs to be addressed for a particular kit, as well as the maximum recommended tire size and whether increased wheel offset is also needed to fit those big tires. If something isn't addressed, ask. Many retail sellers of these kits should also be able to help, and may have an 800 number you can use. If you've got a local off road shop they'd probably be happy to answer questions as well. I'm a newbie on a lot of this stuff, but you can learn a lot reading these forums and googling topics you're interested in. Bear in mind that while some things are generally accepted as fact in these forums, other things fall into gray areas and still others seem to be a regular source of hot debate - in some cases you'll just have to go with your own best judgement as there is no definitive answer. Don't necessarily accept the first thing you read as the gospel truth, none of us are really as smart as we'd sometimes like to think we are! FWIW : )

not for sure, but i do believe that anything over 6" requires longer driveshaft, anything 6" and under you should be fine, but the 4" i am sure you will be fine.

I had a 6 in mine and it was fine(driveshaft). Go with Skyjacker, their lifts hold up better and the springs last longer. I had Superlift and Pro Comp only to wear the springs out after 6 months on each. Yeah I use and abuse, but the Skyjackers have held up nicely over the last year. They don't settle anywhere near as much as the other brands either. I put a tuff country in my friends Dodge and it was a nightmare of a kit. I have a 95 5.8 F150, so if you have questions please look up my profile and email me. I have lifted my truck alot more (up to 12" right now lookin for 4 more) since the pics. Anyhow there are a few tricks you may want to know. I am not at my computer ( I am in Afghanistan) other wise I would email you the pics and article I wrote on the install. Overall easy, just figure 2 solid days of work. Anyhow if you want more in depth message me here or email me. I remember alot of the install. I didn't order a kit, I just pieced it together. REMEMBER TO STAY PATIENT.
